    Java runtime environment (JRE) question

New to Ubuntu, 8.04 on a desktop. Been working great, but now I want to run a macro in openoffice.org spreadsheets and it tells me I have to install a JRE.

    What does everyone else have?

I tried synaptics and there are a few java choices, none of which have any meaning to me. Can't figure out what to do.

Is it possible to go to the Sun website and just download something?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Java runtime environment (JRE) question

i would suggest installing sun-java6 or whatever the package is named, it is the offical one from sun, and it works the best. the other ones (iced tea, gcj) all have various problems because they are just open source implementations on java.
