streaming media in Hardy

I can't play streaming video in hardy such as streaming wmv files but i can watch youtube videos. What can i do to be able to play streaming videos on firefox? I tried to follow the sticky but the gecko mplugin didn't work.I have sound but there is a dark screen.

i remove the totem-mozilla plugin (i think it sucks) and install mozilla-mplayer. and i always install vlc to make sure i have all the codecs. streaming media works great for me.
