Guild Wars / Ubuntu players / Thoughts?

I play GW: Factions (I know, sad right?) with current version of wine and Ubuntu 8.04. Works great for me. I actually had a 64bit version with 7.10 and it didn't run as well, but now it seems to work better. I don't play often, but when I do it works great.

If you have a ATi card you have to do some tweaking, nVIDIA should work OOTB

its ok

the only thing is its main endgame function is pvp

and since they want ur pvp based on skill not on ur gear/lvl...the lvl cap is 20 u buy all your armor from vendors in exchange for materials and gold and each weapon type has a dmg cap

id pick the version with the dervish although i never played one it looked cool and was great in pvp as well as the pve

I couldn't get guild wars to run under cedega or wine I kept getting a graphics error which is strange considering I have an 8500 GT

i play it in wine, i dont get any errors except that 2 foggy lines in the login screen, other than that it runs perfect. i have to turn off compiz and i have the propietary driver though. its ati and i never was able to make anything run good with the open source drivers

I have played Guild Wars since beta. I love it.
Prophecies is by far the best chapter to own and play through first. Heroes ruined the game so stick with it and learn the real story and how to play the game your way, not the way the dev's want you to.

And now for something completely different...I started using strictly Ubuntu
for over two months now, and I gotta say Guild Wars runs fine if you have an nVidia card. I had an ATI HD2400 (anyone want to buy it?) and had so many problems I kept ******* on dual boot.

I see no need to use anything other than Linux now since GW works great
And I cannot WAIT until DiabloIII comes out since all Blizzard games seem to run flawlessly most times under Linux I am not worried.

I have my new laptop, with nVIDIA inside it... GW works great.
By the way, just curious, jimi_hendrix... what guild are you in?

huh i have a ATI HD2400 too and i run guild wars on it with no problems, worked right out of the box i just installed the restricted driver

Guild Wars sucks. I like the World of the Warcraft better.

Why: Guild Wars have no players outside of towns that will help.
