When you become an "Ubuntu Member" on the very same forum you had 1000+ tabs open on.

Cool Re: You know you're a geek when........

When you stay gone from UF for months at a time and when you finally log back on you check this thread first to see if you can get a cool post number.

Re: You know you're a geek when........

... when they ask you to translate formulae with undefined symbols and odd (bizarre actually) construction and you ask them if they can provide any reference or idea of what the undefined components are and they just shrug but you produce them working code which either really is an OK translation of the formula OR fudges it close enough to (at least appear) to make reasonable results anyway.

I explained to this guy that where I do not recognise symbols or construction of a formula if somebody can show me how to actually calculate the formula on paper or in a calculator then I can make a function/routine in several languages to perform the calculations precisely as intended - I made a gravity function in 10 minutes of reviewing formulas and verified it in about 5 minutes of running planet data through it from NASA, ruddy near perfect because all symbols and variables in the (neatly constructed) formula(s) were well defined...

"Sure, you have engaged me to write this software, you are an electronics engineer and I am just a hack programmer who has been interested: If you can't translate this formula into something you could calc out on paper then why the <insert-vague-expletive(s)-here> should I have to be able to translate it? You've got a degree mate! I've just (practically accidentally) been interested in relatively related crap!

sheesh! I'm a geek/nerd but I do have the old specific interests and calculus was never my favourite or I might actually be able to determine those symbols which appear undefined to me atm

you have every season that ever aired of any sci-fi television show still unopened.
you have every movie spawned from all of those shows still unopened.
you have every marvel and dc comic book still in their original wrap.
you have a complete comic book and sci-fi character action figure set still in there original boxes.
You have a complete comi-con sci-fi-con wardrobe including harry potter or hermione granger.
If Ubuntu had 31 flavors then we could call it Baskin' Ubuntu.
