Hey everyone! I've been using Windows ever since I started getting on the computer, with the exception of browsing the internet on Red Hat 5 in some general computer labs, and now I am ready to make the (partial) switch to Linux. I've long since considered it, and my next CS class is all about bash and using the command line on Linux, so I figured now's a great time to start.
Anyways, my desktop at home has two hard drives, so one i'm going to keep running XP and the other one i'm going to install Ubuntu on. I've downloaded the latest release, burned the ISO, read through the installation docs and general help docs, and now I think i'm ready to try. But I have a couple of questions before I do...
First, any general advice for a first-timer? Tricks or tips with the installation & initial use? I'm backing up all my data on an external HD just in case, even though if my Ubuntu installation goes bad it shouldn't effect my other HD.
Second, and I know this is a newbie question, but I can't seem to find a straight answer - is it possible to switch Ubuntu between gnome, kde, xfce, etc?
How does Linux/Ubuntu handle themes? Is it as easy as downloading a provided theme and running some simple installer, or is the process more complicated?
Thanks! Hope to have everything running nicely in a couple of days
