8.04 lost smc usb wireless support

I have a system with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS installed. It has an SMC SMC2662W v.3 wireless usb network adapter that works well. Ubuntu sees it as a Belkin F5D6050 wireless adapter. This worked well with live CD and after installation.

Now I wanted to install latest Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS, but the live cd will not recognize the same adapter on the same machine. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Please help me identify the driver and see if it is missing (and where I can get it to install it) or if it is blocked or misconfigured (and how I can correct it).

OK, my adapter is having difficulty but can kind of work. It seems that I need to shut down completely, or it will not initialize in ubuntu (or windows, as I have a dual boot). However, if I shut down completely and restart it, ubuntu recognizes it and it sees my wireless network. However, when I try to set the encryption, using WEP 64bit hex key, it fails and asks me to retry it. Any thoughts on how to resolve this?
