Right click the panel, select properties, choose background tab, select none

I have done the same thing a few times, if in the future you want to get back a theme or color just move all the stuff in that panel to the top and delete the panel then right click where it was then add panel and move your stuff back.

haha yeah no, right click > propeties did the trick.
To some extent yes, when this has happened and I want to keep a color in the panel I just remove the whole thing put a new panel in and rebuild with the add to panel. Not knowing the level of knowledge of the thread starter, I tend to error on the side of a fix that is understandable. There is probably a terminal command that will remove a added picture to a panel and keep the original set up.
