Quick Question: Who Handles Social Networking Marketing/Support for Ubuntu?

I love Twitter. I Love FriendFeed. I love Plurk. I get into all of these cool tools...but when I search around for Ubuntu Groups, Teams, Rooms, or the like, I find nothing.

Who handles marketing/advocacy for Ubuntu on the social networking/social media front.

And yes, I am throwing my hat in the ring if the position is open.

You might want to ask on the Ubuntu marketing list serve:

    https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/lis...untu-marketing

And check out their wiki page:

You're more likely to get answers from me over on AskUbuntu these days.

Done and done. Seems like the Media Relations and Marketing Teams are sort of floating directionless...the Media Relations page in Lauchpad is editable by anyone that wants to edit the page. Very odd.

Well I believe Jono Bacon is the community manager, or some title like that. Since what you're talking about seems a little more like community building at other venues rather than marketing, maybe you should drop him a line?

I understand what you mean. When I came to Second Life last year there was no group for Ubuntu Linux, so I just started one. Now this group has over a 1000 members. Maybe I should have contacted Ubuntu or Canonical officially before doing that, but just never thought about that at that time. I have been in contact with Mark Shuttleworth later on and he was very pleased to see that Ubuntu was represented on SL.

I see what I am doing there as a voluntary task; I am not a programmer, just a happy Ubuntu user and in this way I can give something back to the community. So I would suggest to just start promoting Ubuntu on these social networks but if I would have to do it again I would contact Jono Bacon now first.

I dropped Jono a line a couple of hours ago. Thanks for the responses all!

What I would like to see/do:

    Dedicated Ubuntu FriendFeed Room.
Someone Tweeting Ubuntu news in Twitter.
Someone hanging out in Plurk saying "Ubuntu is Awesome".

    You get the idea.
