Codec used by Totem and/or Rhythmbox for mp3's

this is several of those really stupid questions.

I know both Totem and Rhythmbox use gstreamer.

    my stupid questions:

    1) which codec is used by Totem to decode mp3s

    2) which codec is used by Rhythmbox to decode mp3s

    and finally

    3) how to change the codec being used to decode mp3s in rhythmbox

i have googled and searched various forums but i haven't actually found
the answer to any of these.

it is probably the same codec. after install, i only download vlc player (no restricted extras or codecs) and any media app can play mp3's. so it is obvious they are sharing the mp3 codec.
    3) how to change the codec being used to decode mp3s in rhythmbox
go into synaptic and search for mp3. if more than one, just delete one of them.
