    vlc not playing avi file

    i just installed vlc player and try to play an avi file but i got this error instead

    Unable to open 'smb://ubuntu/spiderman3%20%20xvid-/spiderman3.avi
    any ideas out there thanks

    Try playing another avi file. Sometimes when you download a movie from the internet the movie is corrupted and therefore it can't be played. Also try playing the movie in another video player.

    erm you might wanna mask that file name, anything with cam and stg in it's file name strikes me as an illegal download

    have you tried opening another file with it? the error message is normal with corrupt files(atleast where the start of the file is corrupt) or copies that would otherwise display messages about installing some other codec(which are honestly all viruses anyway).

    these may not be the problem, however they are far more likly that vlc having a problem.
