Video Issues on my laptop

ATI X300 mobility
8.04 Hardy

I have compiz fusion working great. I needed to use restricted drivers. I'm happy with everything minus games and google earth flicker really badly. Is this something I'm stuck with b/c ati won't release driver source codes? Or is there a work around?
