Exclamation [SOLVED] Firefox Ubuntu Forums extension tool

The version available from the Firefox Add-ons site is configured to install only on FF 3.0pre and not later releases. The author seems to have "forgotten" to update this handy tool, so I have patched the attached version to install on later Firefox releases

Download the file to your PC, then rename the file without the .zip extension, and then open the .xpi file in Firefox (File-Open File) and you should get the normal add-on installation window. Once installed go into Tools-Add-ons-Ubuntu Forums Menu-Options and enable "Add menu to toolbar".

    Now works on FF 12.*
    • 6th March 2009: New version with an entry for the "Ubuntu Brainstorm" site added (in "Other Sites of Interest" menu), and version incremented to 0.60 (the original maintainer seems to have abandoned this nifty package, so I made the mod myself).
    • 8th March 2009: Version 0.61 uploaded with changes to match the actual Forums right now (things changed and the menus contained obsolete forums - now fixed).
    • 11th May 2009: Version 0.62 now with Ubuntu WubiGuide entry in "Other Sites" section.
    • 18th September 2009: Version 0.63 now loads on FF 3.5.x.
    • 22nd November 2009: Version 0.64 with closed 64-bit forum removed from menus.
    • 15th December 2009: Version 0.65 with Multimedia forum link fixed and old forums removed.
    • 23rd February 2010: Version 0.66 for FF 3.6
    • 22nd June 2010: Version 0.67 with new "Recurring Discussions" forum added to "Other Community Discussions" area.
    • 2nd September 2010: Version 0.68 seems to work ok in Firefox 4.0b5pre
    • 22nd June 2011: Version 0.69 looks ok in FF 5.0
    • 17th September 2011: Version 0.70 looks ok in FF 6.02
    • 28th September 2011: Version 0.71 looks ok in FF 7.0
    • 17th November 2011: Version 0.72 looks ok in FF 8.0
    • 21st December 2011: Version 0.73 looks ok in FF 9.0
    • 4th February 2012: Version 0.74 looks ok in FF 10.0
    • 5th February 2012: Version 0.75 has new entry: Other Sites of Interest -Ubuntu Testing to go directly to the latest Ubuntu Development version web site.
    • 11th February 2012: Version 0.76 has new entry: Other Community Discussions - Ubuntu +1 to go directly to the next Ubuntu version discussion forum.
    • 22nd May 2012: Version 0.77 has updated entry: Other Community Discussions - Ubuntu +1 to go directly to the 12.10 discussion forum & "Other OS/Distro" forum entry added.

Ok, that is because the Archive Manager is too smart for it's own good and bypasses the intermediate step - rename the file with the revised instructions in the first post.

It would have been much simpler if Ubuntu Forums allowed uploads of .xpi files......

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 3.0 Ubuntu Forums extension

    Hello,

Could you patch/upgrade the xpi so that it will run with FF 3.0.1? The FF update as of July 12th?

    Thanks,
    CH

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 3.0 Ubuntu Forums extension

Add the nightly tester tools extension from here and you can then just install the standard addon from the mozilla addons site. It will give you the option of overriding the version when you install the ubuntu forums menu.

You can use this to install any incompatible addon but be careful because some addons may break firefox.

If you can't install the addon because it says it is for older versions of firefox, open the extension page by clicking on the extension title, then browse down until you see "see all versions". Click on this link and you can install it from the newest one on the page.
