Vista & Ubuntu sitting in a tree!

    Hi

I have a laptop with vista business installed on it.
About 2 months ago i wiped the laptop clean and put ubuntu gutsy on (7.10), though might end up upgrading to hardy. Everything was working great but now im starting a work placement and have loaded vista back on. But i miss ubuntu.
I would like to do a dual boot but im afraid that my system would not be able to handle it as vista is already incredibly slow(ish).

    Here is my spec:

    • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500
    • 1024MB RAM
    • 1.66GHZ
    • 667MHz FSB
    • 2MB Cache
    • 80 GB Hard Drive

    Is this possible?

    Thanks

I have a basic laptop with similar specs (minus a core duo and with a bigger hard drive) and Vista & openSUSE play along nicely. Vista was presintalled and all I did was resize the Vista partition during the openSUSE installation and proceeded to install openSUSE without any problems. I did the same for a friend a few days ago, so he is now dual booting Vista and Ubuntu.

Thanks, I guess the main reason i was asking was to determine how much disk space i should allocate. All my music and movie files are on external hdd, just work files will be used and stored on the laptop.

I was wondering if 20 gb be generous enough to both OS and still run a good lot of apps on each one?

20 is good, but the minimum for an enjoyable experience.

well literally i have 69.9 in all, vista took up alot of space so now have 58(ish) gb left. If i went to maybe 30 or 40 for ubuntu, would both OS still run happily or will vista get clostrophobic?

40 GB for Vista is plenty.
