    Printing to Lexmark X9575

Just picked up the above printer, which needs to be shared by a Ubuntu laptop, and a MacBook Pro with XP Pro virtual machine.

From what I gather online, the X9575 doesn't have a Linux driver.

Is there some way to configure the setup I have to print from each of the machines without relying on the others? For instance, we can't expect the MacBook to always be there. Though it's pretty certain the Ubuntu laptop will be.

I'm thinking the ubuntuTosh could print via Samba, but not sure it could be done without a Windows box.

    Thanks for your help.

You should be able to get it to work, if it is installed on the Windows machine and you set it up on the Windows machine for sharing. I assume that these machines are all on a LAN?

If the virtual Windows machine is removed, it won't work, of course.

    Re: Printing to Lexmark X9575

I've got some news about X9575 and linux:
I have an open support ticket with lexmark about linux drivers. I've told them that they already have drivers for printing support - MacOS X uses cups
Maybe it helps, if you call support, and ask for linux printing support, and tell them they should compile their Mac OS X driver for linux.

    I'm afraid - no.
I am nearly to try to decompile osx-cups-drivers and recompile it for linux. (I don't really know whether this could work...)

edit: No, it doesn't work. cups under osx uses the pdf-backend of osx...

Its also me who is waiting for the Linux drivers.
A big company like Lexmark should develop them I think. Or do they relay completely on Microsoft?

Install WinXP on Virtualbox and share the printer from there.

    Re: Printing to Lexmark X9575

    I have Ubuntu 9.04. und a Lexmark X9575
I've also done all the time looking for drivers for the X9575. Unfortunately without success. There is not even an alternative driver. I would just print!
I will probably go back to Windows must! very sad
