Is it possible to add a regular 3.5 inch 3.0Gbps 7200RPM SATA drive to the daru2 using the SATA connector that the normal notebook hard disk uses? Power is not really an issue, that can come from an external source if necessary.

If I was to use the drive externally and just plug it in there with a regular SATA cable, would the drive work correctly?

in my opinion the daru2 hasn't a external sata connector. so why connect a hard disk to the internal sata connector? isn't it easyer to connect the drive via an external usb hdd box?

Because I have a SATA drive lying around and it would be faster than the one that is in there. I don't need portability, because the computer sits on my desk for most of it's life. The 5400 RPM laptop hard drive that is in it is really slow.

Your best bet, in that case, would be to use a hard drive encasement that connects to the computer via a USB connector. But you would obviously be sacrificing speed.

If you had the proper cables, you should be able to do this. You'd basically need two male-to-female cables (one for data, one for power). I believe the specifications are the same both for connector and power draw. If this is going to be permanent, you might want to mod your case or raise your laptop up so that it's not pinching the cables the whole time.
EDIT: A quick search reveals that a few companies make a m-f power/data combined adaptor. That's what you want. Just search for "SATA Power/DATA Extension" in google. As to whether or not it will FIT in the Darter, I couldn't say. There isn't a heck of a lot of room in there, barely enough for one of these adaptors, if that.
