    Re: New kernel driver for the BCM5974 touchpad (Macbook Air, Penryn)

    Ok i have tested a little bit..

    first some infos:

    diagnostics output
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    * Kernel version: 2.6.24-19-generic
    * Synaptics version: 0.14.7~git20070706-mactel1
    * USB device: Bus 005 Device 065: ID 05ac:0231 Apple Computer, Inc.
    * /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/updates/dkms/bcm5974.ko: exists
    * /etc/modules: bcm5974 no longer explicitly listed, good
    * /etc/modprobe.d/options: no obsolete quirks, good
    * /etc/modprobe.d/bcm5974: has quirks, good
    * /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/modules.usbmap: maps to bcm5974, good
    * bcm5974: module is loaded
    * /proc/bus/input/devices: module is registered
    * synaptics: configuration readable
    ================================================== =====================
    The bcm5974 seems properly configured

    Your synaptics settings differ from the bcm5974 default:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    RTCornerButton = 0
    ScrollButtonRepeat = 100
    SingleTapTimeout = 180
    - TapButton1 = 0
    - TapButton2 = 0
    - TapButton3 = 0
    + TapButton1 = 1
    + TapButton2 = 3
    + TapButton3 = 2
    TopEdge = 0
    TouchpadOff = 0
    TrackstickSpeed = 40
    UpDownScrolling = 1
    UpDownScrollRepeat = 1
    - VertEdgeScroll = 0
    + VertEdgeScroll = 1
    VertScrollDelta = 40
    VertTwoFingerScroll = 1
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    If in doubt, please check your /etc/X11/xorg.conf settings

    I have the config "http://web.comhem.se/rydberg/Bits/xorg-settings-with-tapping.html" installed

    also installed (for mac) is
    pommed
    ndiswrapper (wlan card)
    and the module
    applesmc
    loads on startup

    the problem is
    the touchpad works after initial start..but after 1min it stops
    - with using strg+alt+f1 and strg+alt+f7 it works again for about 1min
    - my bluetooth mighty mouse works normal
    also my keyboard often stops working...
    (no i dont touch the touchpad...)

    please help me

    (everything works under mac os/vista => so no hardware defect i guess)

    try using it without pommed, and maybe without applesmc and see if you have the same problem.

    Re: New kernel driver for the BCM5974 touchpad (Macbook Air, Penryn)

    The same problem...

    i also noticed that (without bcm5974 installed) i cant press a key and use my mouse (touchpad/mighty mouse) - is it normal?
    edit: ok that was because of mouseemu, removing solves the problem..

    but the other problem still exists...

    The fact that it works for an hour, then returns to normal after switching to a text console, suggests that this is indeed a hardware problem, although macos might be equipped to deal with it.

    is it possible to test for hardware defects?
    => in mac and windows it works normal....

    because how should i explain it to apple? that they repair it..

    There is a hardware problem that has been reported twice for the macbook pro 4,1 laptop, with symptoms very similar to what you describe. Alex got parts of his computer replaced, no questions asked, as far as I can tell. I would try to check with him if the problem was also visible in macos.

    as posted before: the problem is only visible in linux with the driver bcm5974...without everything works (except two-fingerscrolling,etc)
    and in macos/windows it works also...
    so i think its no hardware defect

    Sorry for being unclear. Question to alex: did your problem manifest itself also under macos?

    Pheew !! I've finally read all the pages of this topic.

    Thanks for your driver ! It almost always works. Yeah almost lol.

    It works randomly on my Macbook Pro with ubuntu hardy 8.04. I don't know if it's a Penrynn or not. I bought it in march 2008 so I suppose it is. It says MBP 4,1 under MacOSX, and Intel Core 2 Duo under Linux with <command-name-I-forgot>

    The driver works perfectly let's say .. 9 boots on 10. When it doesn't work (which means I can only left click with the button and move the mouse), I use your checkup script and of course it says the module is not loaded (but it is according to the lsmod output).

    I double-checked the quirks in the modprobe file and it's ok.

    Oh and by the way, I can't ALT+F2 or ALT+anything, so I can't reload the driver. Maybe because of pommed.

    Any idea?

    PS: hope my english is not too bad, I'm french
