Re: [HOW-TO] Upside-down image from UVC webcam

Okay, got it, sorry for the multiple posts, but if it helps someone else, then great.

Anyway, I'm running beta 9.10, 64-bit, on the aforementioned Asus laptop above. I followed Hans instructions. I installed the 64-bit beta skype for 8.10 on their download page. When passing the LD_PRELOAD, I used the 32bit one LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype which works perfectly. Then, to beautify, I created a launching script & edit the menu launcher to call that script when I select skype from Applications-->Internet-->Skype. So, stepwise:
1.) Follow Hans instructions in this thread
    2.) Install the skype client
3.) Invoke skype with LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype (either on the command line, or edit a launcher.)

Thanks again Hans, for the work. I've tried some of the other approaches, vfile, driver mods, etc; but, this got me what I wanted--a functioning web cam w/skype & cheese, etc.

I'm using the 64-bit beta version of skype, version number noted above.
I think the 64 bit beta might in reality still be 32 bit (I think I've had the same bug report before and that was the cause) try pre-loading the
    32 bit v4l1compat.so.

Whicc moves the firmware files to the standard /lib/firmware directory.

    So download:
    http://bitbucket.org/ahixon/r5u87x/get/32a27008b8b9.bz2

    And then apply:
    http://people.fedoraproject.org/~jwrdegoede/r5u87x-loader-firmware_path.patch

    Followed by:
    http://people.fedoraproject.org/~jwrdegoede/r5u87x-loader-flip.patch

And then do the usual ./configure, make, make install

Also if your distro (Ubuntu I guess) provides packages of the loader, please consider filing a bug with a link to the flip patch and ask them to
    include this.

Sorry for not providing proper instructions before,

    Regards,

    Hans
Great! Thanks!! I spent several hours researching on internet, and only your solution was successful for me! Here a VAIO VGN-FZ18M. Now the webcam is not "upside down" anymore, and we can use Skype perfectly.

    Thousand thanks!!!!!!!

The solution provided by HansdeGoede works for me too, on a Vaio VGN-FZ11Z. Also the second patch at the beginning of this post had worked, but I had problems with the vloopback module for Webcamstudio. Now everything is working.
    Thank a lot!

    I can confirm http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/7622.html
    's solution
    - libv4l http://apps.freshmeat.net/projects/libv4l
    - his installation instruction + installing another package he mentioned there
works for my Ubuntu 9.10 with Skype installed from the medibuntu repository on the default webcam of my new Asus UL30A laptop.
I am glad the upside down problem is finally fixed!

Re: [HOW-TO] Upside-down image from UVC webcam

Hi, none of the solutions provided here has helped me to fix the upside-down-problem.

    I am running Ubuntu 9.10 64bit on an Asus Notebook (X53Ka AP051-C).

    lsusb
    outputs:

    Code:
    Bus 001 Device 004: ID 174f:5a35 Syntek Sonix 1.3MPixel USB 2.0 Camera
When I try one of the patches provided by arjos85 and compile the new file, I get a warning:

    guido@Sydney:~/trunk$ make
    -------------------------------- WARNING ---------------------------------------
The USB Video Class driver has moved to http://linuxtv.org/.
Using the Berlios SVN repository is now deprecated.
Please check http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/ for download instructions.
If you really want to compile this historical version, run 'make uvcvideo'.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Entering
    guido@Sydney:~/trunk$ make uvcvideo
    outputs several error messages.

So I tried the solution provided by HansdeGoede here:
    http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/7622.html

    But neither
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
    nor
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
    nor

    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype.real
work. Skype starts but the webcam-pic is still upside-down. Cheese does not work correctly, too.

I googled up and down and up but could not find any other solution....Is there really no way to get this damned webcam working?????

This means that libv4l does not yet know about your laptop, please
    do (as root):
    dmidecode > dmi.log
    lsusb > usb.log

And send a mail with the 2 files attached to: hdegoede@redhat.com

Do not copy and paste the files, do not modify them! I need them
100% as is, so please attach them as is.

Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much Hans! Finally my webcam works correctly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant believe it.

I tried it so many times to fix this webcam alone, but it never worked...I almost got crazy and was already thinking about ripping off the Notebook to turn the camera around - and now it works.... Juhu!!!!!!
