Format Exteranl USB Drive under Hardy

I have an old USB drive with data on it and could us it for storage but would like to delete the old data on it. What is the command line sequence to do this?

    Thanks,

I can't help you with the command line command. But I personally like to use the gnome (gparted) or qt (qtparted) partition manager for this. Delete the partition and reformat. Be careful that you select the right disk.
To select go in gparted to the right upper corner. /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc depending of the harddrives in your system.
