    Code:
    wminput -v
    Ideally it should say: CWiid Version 0.6.00
    Are you running Ubuntu 8.04? What version of Ubuntu are you running?

    Re: HOWTO: Wii remote in Ubuntu 8.04

    Wow. Thanks for the prompt response. My ubuntu version is:

    Code:
    ~$ lsb_release -a
    No LSB modules are available.
    Distributor ID:	Ubuntu
    Description:	Ubuntu 8.04.1
    Release:	8.04
    Codename:	hardy
    The output for wminput -v is:

    Code:
    ~$ wminput -v
    wminput: invalid option -- v
    The only valid modifiers I see come from the help command and are:

    Code:
    ~$ wminput -help
    usage:wminput [-h] [-w] [-c config] [bdaddr]
    I should tell you that everything works fine when i use wminput, but I don't want to have to type in "wminput" everytime I want to connect or reconnect.

    Thanks.

    Re: HOWTO: Wii remote in Ubuntu 8.04

    I guess I could contribute something, so if anyone is using a MythTV with VLC as the MythVideo player with their WiiMote, I wrote up a myth config file to use with CWiid. Feel free to use it. Since I don't get in the nuts and bolts much, and am not yet tired of documentation, it is, of course, nicely documented. Enjoy and thanks for the help.

    Code:
    #mythtv setup

    Wiimote.A	= KEY_P			#myth = play/pause	vlc = play/pause
    Wiimote.B	= KEY_ESC		#myth = back		vlc = back to myth (end video/next in playlist)
    Wiimote.Up	= KEY_UP		#myth = nav up		vlc = skip ahead 10 minutes
    Wiimote.Down	= KEY_DOWN		#myth = nav down	vlc = skip back 10 minutes
    Wiimote.Left	= KEY_LEFT		#myth = nav left	vlc = skip back 30 seconds
    Wiimote.Right	= KEY_RIGHT		#myth = nav right	vlc = skip ahead 30 seconds
    Wiimote.Minus	= KEY_LEFTBRACE		#myth = decrease vol	vlc = decrease volume
    Wiimote.Plus	= KEY_RIGHTBRACE	#myth = increase vol	vlc = increase volume
    Wiimote.Home	= KEY_BACKSLASH		#myth = mute		vlc = mute
    Wiimote.1	= KEY_SPACE		#myth = select		vlc = subtitle toggle
    Wiimote.2	= KEY_W			#myth = asp rat toggle	vlc = asp rat toggle
    Note: You need to go into the VLC interface prefs to change the hotkeys to agree with the key assignments. Hope someone can use this, it's pretty functional for me.

    How are you able to tell if your computer has a bluetooth adapter?

    If you don't, how do you acquire one?

    Then you probably dont have the latest version 0.6.00

    Try with the latest one, or try out XWII

    You should see a bluetooth icon come up in the top-right corner of your screen if you have bluetooth.
    If you want a bluetooth adapter, just buy a cheap usb bluetooth adapter (some really cheap ones work, some may not work).

    You can get your wii remote working with your emulators in Ubuntu.
    I doubt your hp usb pickup is actually bluetooth.
    Check to see if there's the bluetooth logo on it:

    Also check your panel too see if there's the bluetooth loge in there.
    Your wireless pci card is for wireless LAN / internet, it's not bluetooth.

    Bluetooth usb plug-ins can be bought for AU$10 here, most should just work when you plug it in (check the gnome panel - top right corner in Ubuntu - a bluetooth icon should pop up when your computer is bluetooth enabled).
    Work smart, not hard.
