Can I make a old xbox into a ubuntu server?

I recently heard you could turn a old xbox into a ftp server or any server that you like. Anyone know if this is possible? They used Apache to build theirs could I use ubuntu server?

I tried googling but couldn't find much info on it. I have a old xbox collecting dust and want to take on a new challenge.

i think the xbox needs to have the mod kit. you can't do nothing with a vanilla xbox.

Actually you can softmod a stock xbox to run Xbox Media Center (xbmc) which is a very, very nice media center. Very easy to do in fact. I have 3 running in my house right now, and said media center does have local ftp access by default, although if you want to do much storage, you'd want to upgrade to a larger, speedier hard drive.

Yea you can soft mod it. I have an old xbox which I run Xebian on it which pretty much just Debian for xbox. I'm thinking of changing it to FreeBSD as I was reading some stuff on how to get FreeBSD to work on a xbox.
