8.04 randomly freezing requiring hard shut down, caps and scroll lock flash

I did run Memtest86+ (for those who like to do this as well, makes sure you have time on your hands. My test ran for just over 2 hours) ... no errors where detected.

Any other suggestions will be highly appreciated.

i say its a kernel issue mainly

you should run a memtest for atleast 24 hours if you think theres a problem

In my case and I think that most of the guys that are having this problem it is directly related to using a wifi connection. When I was using a PCI wifi card I was having lockups about every fifteen minutes, now since I went to the USB wifi dongle I haven't had a single one in several days. Still it shouldn't be that way and we can only hope that it will be corrected in 8.10.

Add another report here. This problem only started after the proprietary update a couple weeks ago.

I have found a solution for this freeze issue. Go with OpenSuse 11. No freeze and no hassle. Simply perfect.

I have the same problem here. Froze three times (kernel panic) in the last week since I upgraded to 8.10.

x86_64 Ubuntu 8.10 upgrade from 8.04.

Can it possibly be an interrupt clash issue? Can each of you post your

btw, @Izkata: That's 4GiB, otherwise it's going to be pretty much impossible to run any linux

I'm having a similar issue with 8.10 on a Lenovo X61s - works fine for a while, then locks up and the Caps Lock light flashes. A hard reboot is the only way to get around this.
