    So my friend...

Bought a laptop for £400 from PC World..and bought MS Office 2007 and Norton 360, this all added up to £500! If I had that much money to spend I would buy a better quality laptop, because his laptop is decent, but it has Sis integrated graphics, so that means Vista's really noticable. And surprise surprise, the battery only lasts about an hour, even on powersave mode. Mine lasts about 3 hours and it costed only £350! (The only thing better with his is that it had 2GB memory, mine has 1, and his HDD is a bit bigger). And it made me laugh that the PC World guy said "If you buy this laptop with 2GB memory, it's like another brain!"

Why oh why do people waste their money on junk like that?

Put nicely, it's another case of "didn't do his homework before buying." SiS is, by definition, a piece of garbage. What really stinks is that the cost of software is more than the computer itself when he could've just used OpenOffice and AVG for free. Maybe you should enlighten your friend on how to choose a better computer... even if it's Vista.
Think before you type: If anybody asks you to type anything with rm -rf on the CLI, DO NOT do it! As a matter of fact, if you don't know what a set of commands will do, ask for clarification from other members.
