    Problems using GParted partioning

    Hi all,
I wanna partition my hard disk under Ubuntu 7.10 with GParted. I have downloaded and installed the software, but all the operations are in the gray color. I searched somehow, one way is to burn the live cd of gparted. Is it a must that i can only partition my hard disk using the livecd instead of the installed software on my machine? thx.

In short, you CANNOT partition a hard drive correctly if you are using it at the moment. You will need to burn the live image of GParted to a CD and then boot to that CD (instead of the hard drive) in order for it to work correctly.

yuki is right, but you can umount those drives which do not contain your os or home folder. This can be done by right-clicking.

That is if you have more than one drive; otherwise, use Gparted Live CD:
