newbie-multimedia does not work at all

i just recently installed ubuntu,
as u know, i'm a freshman in this operating system.
and somehow my sound devices and movies does not work. i've tried many sites from youtube to imeem and they didn't even want to load the player. can someone help me please? im really appreciate it.thank you.
