    you could also try
    Code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

    Re: screen resolution

some of this i remember from 7.1. As i remember i had to edit my xorg.conf file. Wonder if anyone can help me edit my xorg.conf file:

    # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by failsafeDexconf, using
    # values from the debconf database and some overrides to use vesa mode.
    #
    # You should use dexconf or another such tool for creating a "real" xorg.conf
    # For example:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

    Re: screen resolution

Have a look at this thread:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=829020

Which tells you to open up a terminal, and enter this in:
    Code:
    gksu displayconfig-gtk
That will bring up a nice GUI where you can configure your video resolution settings.
Once finished, just log out, then log back in again.
    Work smart, not hard.

    Rhubarb: +1

If gksudo displayconfig-gtk doesn't produce enough result, try nvidia-settings:
