    Laptop VGA-out to TV

I am trying to get the VGA port on my Gateway laptop (model CX2619) to work with an VGA to composite adapter. I can't even get it to work with in Windows with the Intel control program. The picture is shifted, black and white and doesn't stay still.
As far as Linux goes, I have had a time trying to get it to even work. I don't think I have a driver specified and am not sure what to do with it, because if I specify it in xorg, it does funky things. The chipset is Intel 915.
I have tried using the Screens and Resolutions and it doesn't really help me either.

I know this is vague but if someone can at least get me started by setting the right driver and then maybe show me how I can display the right image on the TV.

Thanks a lot for any help.
