Red face Oh, My God!!!! Smebody still wants Internet Explorer on Linux

I'm so shocked right now, that I'm unable to express my state of shock in proper words. It all happened, when I read the 3rd post( the one by chebert).

    He said:
I just downloaded Ubuntu last week. I need to get to servers that recongnize only Internet Explorer. I tried to download wine from their web site but their first instruction is to open a terminal window. How do I open a terminal window, what is a terminal window. Also, do you just copy and paste their codes into the "terminal window"?

You should open a new thread with a title of your problem by the way

There is a plugin for Firefox called User Agent Switcher that lets you choose which browser it tells the web sites they are talking to. It won't help with malformed HTML or ActiveX, but it will help with a lot of sites that check for IE and then refusse to talk to you. In FF, go Tools->Add-ons and then get extensions (bottom right).

To open a terminal, it's under Accessories->Terminal. Yes, you can copy/paste the commands which is much more reliable than re-typing them.

    Welcome to Ubuntu everybody.

Perhaps I am missing something here! The point of your post? I think chebert asked a fair question? If he is new to Linux in general, the Windows way of doing things can often seem quite remote.

In addition, I use IE everyday on Linux.

The dude in the thread you were refering to said he had to access IE only servers. Nothing wrong with that. I would be using IE too if I was in his situation.

Ever heard about IE4Linux? I think just about every Linux using web developer uses Internet Explorer to test their pages.

I don't see the point of this thread either. I still need it sometimes too, for testing.

EDIT: Ebuntor made my exact point.

I prefer using wine doors, for IE only websites, but I would never use IE for surfing, I even keep firefox portable with me all the time to prevent this from EVER happening.

I test half my pages for anti-compliance. If they fail on IE but work everywhere else, I have succeeded. If something still loads in IE, back to work!

Heh, yeah that's usually the best solution. Getting anything to properly work in IE is a nightmare in my experience.

Man, i completely forgot that some people here could be Web Developers. Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anybody.

Well, at least after IE8 passes the W3C acid-test, u won't need to use IE
