    Problem Loading Ubuntu HH In GRUB

    Hello,

    I installed Fedora 9 yesterday, that means my total installed OS' go up to three, windows, ubuntu and fedora. Now, In the setup It asked me about what OS' i would like in grub, and I added the partition with ubuntu on.

    Only to find out that I get some error 13 - not recognisable exectuable file when trying to load, here's a copy of my grub file in fedora:

    # grub.conf generated by anaconda
    #
    # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
    # NOTICE: You do not have a /boot partition. This means that
    # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /, eg.
    # root (hd0,4)
    # kernel /boot/vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/sda5
    # initrd /boot/initrd-version.img
    #boot=/dev/sda
    default=0
    timeout=5
    splashimage=(hd0,4)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz

    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 ro root=UUID=e2608cba-9757-4b99-8d8b-49f7f788d4af rhgb quiet
    initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686.img
    title Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
    rootnoverify (hd0,2)
    chainloader +1
    title Windows XP Home Edition
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    chainloader +1

    BTW, Windows does load...

    Please help,

    Cheers,
    GCoffee.

    Re: Problem Loading Ubuntu HH In GRUB

    Next time you add a new linux system, choose not to install grub or a bootloader.
    Then create a mountpoint, mount the root file system and change to boot/grub on the newly installed system. Copy the lines from menu.lst and edit the hosts menu.lst, in your case adding the lines to ubuntu menu.lst would boot fedora:

    title Fedora (2.6.25-14.fc9.i686)
    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 ro root=UUID=e2608cba-9757-4b99-8d8b-49f7f788d4af rhgb quiet
    initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686.img

    To your problem, the fedora grub is chainloading and its telling me that windows is the primary first partition, and that Ubuntu has a single / partition on partition 3.

    I dont know why windows fails to loads, maybe you want to try makeactive above the chainloader +1.

    To verify partitions, boot from the Hardy live cd and post the output of
    sudo fdisk -l
