[Humorous] Anti-Nuclear Sun? More contributions would be great.

I recently started to learn Java, and am currently reading through the official Java tutorial. Upon reading the Code sample license in the tutorial I came across what I thought was a slightly odd and humorous line.

The first part of the license is the usual 'You can use this, but must redistribute with the license blah, blah', all very open source. It's the final line of the license that made me laugh and left me feeling slightly puzzled;

You acknowledge that this software is not designed, licensed or intended for use in the design, construction, operation or maintenance of any nuclear facility.

Nuclear facility? Why nuclear facility? . When you take into account that most of the examples in the tutorial are related to creating a Bicycle class this makes this statement even more strange!

Perhaps some one out there in Ubuntu Land can explain this specific and odd statement.

Also does anyone else have any examples of similar funny license clauses whether software related or not?

It's pretty standard software EULA. It tells you that their software are not good enough for such things. But really, few software are good enough for such things.

Its so they can't be held responsible for your mistakes in blowing up the world.

The Google Earth EULA includes stuff about not using it for missile guidance or strategic warfare.

Hmm, so the software isn't good enough for Nuclear power plants (Which have automatic shutdowns), but its good enough for space travel, Hospitals etc...?

It's a liability thing. If you use X software from Y company in Z occupation that is excluded in the EULA, and X software causes a major disaster - your nuclear power plant goes into meltdown, your life support system fails, etc. - Y company is not responsible.

It's not nearly as funny as iTunes + nuclear weapons, which is just a plain old "wtf?".
