network appearing but not connecting

I have just reinstalled ubuntu onto my compaq presario C500 laptop

i have got the wireless network to show up, but it will not let me connect.

any ideas what im doing wrong?

I had that problem as well, just go and manually configure it by clicking the network icon and then select manual configuration. Type in your details - (WPA security paswords, etc) and you should be good to go.
