[SOLVED] Does anyone have the Zalman ZM-NC2000 laptop cooler ?

I'm potentially interested in buying the Zalman ZM-NC2000 to cool my laptop. Does anyone have this laptop cooler ? If so could you please do me a big favor and do some measurements for me ?

I would like to know the two distances which I illustrated in the picture (the red distance and the yellow distance). The red distance is important because I want to know whether the air can blow directly into the air intake for my cpu. I need an exact measurement for this because the ZM-NC1000 was too small for this.The yellow distance is important because I don't want too much air to escape at the sides. Exact measurements are also important because I need to convert it to the metric system.

Red: 16cm
Yellow: 32.3cm

32.3 cm for yellow is perfect for me as my laptop is 31.7 cm wide.

But 16 cm for red is not very good. Because my cpu air intake starts at 15 cm (from the rubber feet of the laptop) and continues until about 17.3 cm. So less than half of my cpu intake is directly above the air flow. Which is sub-optimal.

update:

According to a comment on my blog the holes part is 16 cm but if you continue until the black rubber strip (which is where you would put the laptop feet against) it's actually 17.1 cm. Which means that my cpu air intake is almost completely directly above the air flow which is what I want. Perfect!

Small review with some imprecise measurements (especially the room temperature) :

general opinion and temperature when doing normal stuff :
I'm very happy with this cooler. It cools very good! The room temperature is roughly 22 degrees celcius. My harddisk runs about 15 degrees celcius cooler. It's running at 42 degrees celcius instead of 57 degrees celcius (running on AC with apm 254). My cpu runs roughly 5 degrees cooler (52-57 degrees celcius versus 57-62 degrees celcius). These temperatures are measured when running a few applications which I run often at the same time (firefox,pidgin,totem,mozilla-thunderbird,terminator).

noise:
The laptop with the zalman cooler is less noisy than the laptop with the zalman cooler when the laptop fan kicks in. Running the zalman cooler at it's highest speed is not irritating at all according to my personal human perception. Two bigger zalman fans don't have to run as fast as the one tiny fan inside my laptop so the tiny fan can relax and run slowly.

stress testing :
Playing openarena used to increase the heat of my system so much that it used to crash my network but this problem seems to be solved as well. The cpu temperature is 57 degrees celcius after playing a bit of openarena (previously it would be way over 60). I couldn't get the temperature above 63 degrees running cpuburn on my two cores (T2500 core duo) in S-mode. My laptop has a special S-mode. When not in S mode the fan makes more noise and I can use cpuburn to let the cpu temperature go up until I'm afraid so I'm always using the laptop in S-mode. (running cpuburn can be potentially dangerous so I can't recommend this)

Yellow: 32.3cm

If the Zalman ZM-NC2000 is too big for you maybe the Zalman ZM-NC1000 is more suitable. But for my 13" laptop the ZM-NC1000 is too small. The ZM-NC2000 has a bigger area of holes. With the ZM-NC1000 it was not possible to place the air intake for my cpu directly above the airflow.

I previously purchased the Zalman ZM-NC1000 months ago and just opened it last night. I went to use it with my Del XPS-m1330 which is smaller and the fit with the cooler is fine. I plug in the usb power and the fans start up and will increase increase audibly and visually in speed with the fan control dial.

My confusion comes in that there is no perceivable air flow emitting from the cooling vents on the surface where the notebook sits regardless of the fan speed setting. The fans are definately working, but no air comes out. How is it supposed to cool my notebook with no airflow?

I have had other notebook cooling stands and you can allways feel the airflow. Since you have used both the ZM-NC1000 and the new NC2000, can you comment on the airflow from the surface vents?
