Need Help Booting!

I have a toshiba laptop running windows and it has the
error message:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

The problem is I don't have the recovery cd but I don't want to reinstall windows anyways. I tried booting from an ubuntu cd but it's not doing it and I want to install ubuntu.
(I have already tried putting cd-rom as first boot up from the BIOS)
Any idea's why it won't work, or how to fix it?

Can you describe what it says while you try to boot with the Live CD?

I insert the disk and it gives me the option to boot from cd by selecting an icon I do so but it gives me the error stated above.

You might need to change your BIOS settings to allow you to boot from CD. Try changing the boot order by placing your disk drive first.

yeah I tried that several times to still to no avail. I think it's not properly booting from the cd but no idea why. The cd works fine I've used it on two other machines with no problems.

If you have another computer connected to the internet, try downloading another copy of ubuntu. This happens to some of my discs sometimes and it is weird.
