HOW TO: Backup and clear MBR (uninstall GRUB)

Two tux icons on Triple Booted System (Lion OSX, Linux Mint 9, Windows 7)

Previously I also had the problem of two tux icons in rEFIT, and tried every option that I could find to get rid of it. Eventually what worked for me was the following:
(Instructions for Windows 7)

1. Boot using Windows CD/DVD
2. select Repair your computer
3. select Command Prompty
4. enter Bootrec.exe /FixMbr (for XP I think one only needs fixmbr)
