Logout/KDM broke with NVIDIA manually installed drivers?!?

I'm not sure if this issue is connected with the widespread NVIDIA issues with the drivers not detecting EDIDs of monitors, but hopefully someone can help.

When I installed Hardy, and installed the NVIDIA drivers manually, I have a problem. When I logout of my system to log in with another user account, I get a black screen when X restarts. I'm not sure if it is a KDM crash or not, but I have no idea what causes it. I can log in through the console, restart KDM or X and I can get back to the desktop, but I don't know where to start to resolve this problem.

same problem here, nvidia, no specific drivers, no manual install - just as the system initially was set up.

Sign.out leaves me with a black screen, no Console possible, reboot needed.

I had a crash twice when playing with xawtv - and surprisingly came back to sign on screen.

I have that same issue with Feisty now...and if I remember correctly, every time I installed the nvidia driver manually, that issue occurred. I'll try to see if a bug report has been filed.

Yep, me too. Ubuntu Hardy + nvidia driver installed with envyng = hard crash on logout.

Yes, I have the same prob in Kubuntu 8.04.1 and manually installed Nvidia drivers with Envy. Log out and I'm left with a black screen. Any solutions anyone?
