[SOLVED] Installer hangs at Step 4, Resizing partition @ 0%

    hi all,
I've installed ubuntu twice before on different machines, although they were 7.10

I'm posting this from the live CD (hardy heron), but the installer is stuck on step 4, 0%. I know it says it may take along time, but it's been over 20mins, and previous experiences have been about 3minutes for the whole thing. The HD only spins when i'm browsing the net as well, looking for answers to this!

Before i could do this however, i did have to do a chkdsk in windows, which fixed some stuff and allowed me to partition it.

    Any ideas?
    thanks,

XP or Vista?. If Vista; use Vista's own partitioner to allocate space for Ubuntu.

Re: [SOLVED] Installer hangs at Step 4, Resizing partition @ 0%

    hi,
i'm having the same problem. i have an x86 64bit pc with vista ultimate on it, that i don't want to lose. i'm resizing the partition to set up a new partition for ubuntu in the ubuntu setup. it's stuck at 0% with no way to cancel.

i see i should use the vista partioner but i'm already stuck here.
if i restart the computer will it mess everything up?

its a 1.5 terrabyte hdd with 533gb used and i was resizing the already full disk partition to 900gb and was going to give the rest to ubuntu. i'm using 9.04 ubuntu.

If you restart, there is no guarantee that vista will work. Hopefully you backed up important data.

If not, then testdisk may allow you to recover the partition.

    Otherwise, wait.

Also, since this is an old thread and marked as solved, you would be best off starting a new one.

i figured it may take a week at the rate with 2 1.5tb hdd's on a mirror raid. ack! so i fig'd that the sooner i restarted it the better my chances were. so i did, and vista worked after chkdsk (lucky whew).

test disk cool, i will look into that. it looks like using the vista resizer is a major pain the neck.. arg, why can't ms just play nice?

I tried ubuntu 11.10, and had to wait for 10 minutes. I think vista won't let the partition resize that easily.
