    Download XP-drivers when in Ubuntu??

    Hi,

My hubby's Compaq Pres 5020NL, had a double boot Ubuntu Hardy/Vista.
I downgraded Vista to XP, with a clean install. Now there are several drivers missing, network card among others.

So in XP there is no internet connection, but in Ubuntu there is. Can I download the XPdrivers while I'm online in Ubuntu?

Can I store the XP-drivers from Ubuntu on the XP-partition (NTFS)? Or must I create an NTFS partition which they can both read, first?

My first attempt resulted in a tar-file after unzipping and I doubt if XP can use that when I burn it to CD.

    Thanks!

    yes, you can download them

if you install ntfs-3g you can store them directly on the ntfs drive

if you have usb thumb drive you can store the drivers on there and access it by xp

xp can make use of tar files, just not natively. Total Commander, a nice file manager on windows, has the ability to use .tar archives.

I don't think an XP-driver will be packaged as tarball.
I'd look for the native Windows version if I was you.

Yes if you can download the .exe then you could move that across to your XP partition after it's downloaded

I actually had to do this myself

If he would do that, I'd be most happy. But no, computers are foreign to him and Linux is an alien, no matter what I try.

Thanks for the very fast answers! Good to know it's possible. Will give it a try later today and close the thread when succesful.
