    One sound at a time

Whenever I have more than one application that plays sound, whether it currently is or not, all sounds stop.
I can't play any music/sounds until I close all of the applications, this includes flash videos/banners, and reopen only one of them so I can play it.
It wouldn't be such a pain if I could always figure out which programs use sounds. Sometimes they are hiding/sleeping but it's still blocking sounds.

    What to do?

Actually I had the exact same problem and it's solution turned out to be so simple .

    System/preferences/sound preferences
on devices tab just set all options to ALSA specially first two : sound events& music and movies

    should work fine then

Thanks! Easy solution but I was having that problem too and I couldn't believe that I wasn't able to listen at the same time a youtube video and a song with the rythmbox!
