I have kind of a wimpy processor. I spent a lot of time wondering why Mandriva was so much slower than my other distrubutions. I finally looked around in the power management and realized that my processor was set at Dynamic and not Performance. I clicked that and things have gotten better. I wonder why they did this? Is it because I am on a laptop?

Yes, that's basically it. Although I believe it's supposed to go to Performance when you're plugged into the power (rather than running on battery). Did it not?
