    Question Securing Hardy

Well, I went and basically mastered security on Gutsy, but now I'm going to upgrade to Hardy soon. Anything special I need to know about securing Hardy?

    Thanks,

    SH

    Re: Securing Hardy

The same security ideas from gutsy still apply to hardy. If you did it in gutsy, you'll be set for hardy as well.

    Re: Securing Hardy

    (1) do not install software from untrusted sources

    (2) if ask to run something as root/sudo make sure what you're doing

    (3) don't install unnecessary software especially not daemons/servers

    (4) if you run openssh-server take precautions to auto-ban failed login attemps (denyhosts)

    (5) keep the packages up-to-date

    (6) sign up for some security blogs/newsletters

    (7) ...

Security is an ongoing process Best way to ensure security is to unplug the computer from the net and move it to you're bank's vault.
