Is not ready at all. Buggy and inpenetrable

Just got dual booting going with the LTS kubuntu and it's not ready for mainstream. KDE 4 must be much worse.

Gnome/Ubuntu rules for now I'm afraid.

Sorry to hear that, it's been a while since I tried KDE.

And I don't think the Absolute Beginner Talk is the best place to post this thread

Re: Is not ready at all. Buggy and inpenetrable

Well I've been on ubuntu for a year. Got new pc with 2 HD's thought I'd dual boot but well I'm gob smacked how poor Kubuntu is to Ubuntu. I was expecting much more.

Synaptic is light years ahead of Adept. Firefox is not installed as standard .... on and on .

    Conclusion

    Ubuntu wins hands down.

As a long-time KDE user, I've been quite disappointed with the latest releases of Kubuntu -- very unstable and buggy, including Hardy. This is why I switched to Ubuntu, which as been rock solid for me.

Remember, the problem isn't with KDE... it is the Kubuntu implementation of KDE. Also, I think the transition from KDE 3.* to KDE 4.* might explain things. KDE 4 is a complete overhaul of KDE from the ground up. I would think that the Kubuntu developers didn't see much point in spending the huge amount of time required for stabilizing KDE 3.* on Ubuntu when KDE 4.* is about to replace it anyway.

Opensuse (and even Mandriva) are known to implement a better version of KDE than Kubuntu

KDE 4 is very buggy, so even though I use KDE 3.5.9, I wouldn`t touch KDE 4 just yet. It will get there.

If you want a good implementation of KDE, look elsewhere.
