Watching TV with USB tuners in Hardy

I tried ubuntu a year ago, using this Toshiba Satellite Laptop. However, the lack of sound prevented me from experimenting further. The sound works with the hardy release. I have performed a clean build. I've used the em28xx how-to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/em28xx to enable USB tuner support.

Can someone tell me how I can check to see if this has worked and how I actually get to watch TV. I have the following USB tuner sticks
    Pinnacle 330e
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 900

Take a look at the 'video4linux' wiki at: http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Main_Page

it will tell you everything you need to know.

I have an Hauppauge HVR 950, and am not totally happy with it or the support for it. I've messed around with tvtime and xawtv, which install nicely, but neither one has sound. I've tried many of the various posts as to how to use tvtime and get sound, but none of them have worked. Finally I tried xine, and while everything works (sound plus TV), I find that xine is very choppy, and the channels keep switching automatically. So far I'm not having a lot of luck in getting this working correctly. tvtime seems to have a very good picture and works nicely, it's just that there no sound at all.

Try VLC if your tuner is working it should pick it up and allow you to tune your channels
