In synaptic there is a category called autoremovable. Those are things that were installed as dependencies and no longer needed. You can also do in the terminal "sudo apt-get autoremove"
or "sudo apt-get autoremove programname" if you want to remove a specific program along with its dependencies (you can also use aptitude)

BTW, deborphan is dangerous and it removes things that are even not "orphaned" (just becuase there is nothing dependent on x doesn't mean x is orphaned, you may just want x rather than installing it as a dependency!) So don't use it,

I think Ubuntu is great, but still...

    1. Why no drivers for ac USB wireless modems/extenders, such as Netgear A6200ac...it has been out for two years!?

    2. Why no voice to text...I know there has been work on this for sometime, but this is a real weak point in competition for Windows users.

I'm not a fan of all the orange, tbh.
How's about a little bit of green here and there?

Wasn't much of a Unity fan at the start, but i gave it a chance, kept watching the progress and trying the new releases, and it's coming along very nicely now. Maybe soon it'll be light enough not to bother my desktop machine, which for some reason hates Gnome Shell, KDE and Unity, but loves Xfce, Maté, Lxde and E17.
(I gave up trying to figure out why about a year back).

Earth tones, my friend, from South Africa. And easily changed.

And I'm assuming you filed a ticket for this issue, right?

    I haven't had a very pleasant experience upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04.

It's well documented about Unity, but things like gtkpod didn't work in 12.04 and I use my iPod extensively. Also gedit and associated LaTeX plugins bugged out for me, flash not supported by Firefox anymore, my professional job requiring alot of Excel VBA to work. That and I've become a fond PC gamer of late has led me to reluctantly convert my dual boot to a single boot of....Windows 8 :O

But I love open source programs and they will continue to populate my system - thank you Linux for introducing me to LaTeX for all word processing - I will miss Ubuntu, but when gaming support is awesome (if ever), I will be back.

Actually, you have Adobe to thank for that, not Mozilla or Ubuntu. Adobe decided to stop supporting Linux after v.11.2, except in Chrome. That's why it still works in Chrome/Chromium, but not in Firefox.
