Re: How to: Install Network Manager 0.7 SVN on Hardy

Install Ubuntu Hardy on IBM T43p. After following the instructions on this thread to update the network manager to 0.7. After reboot the T43p just can't seem to access the network or obtain a DHCP address.

    My setup:
The T43p is connected to a Linksys AG041 Router / DSL modem and with a Linksys WAP54G connected to the router.

I have managed to get an upgrade on Sunday (15/Jul/08) to 0.7 and also my network connect without any problem. Until I messed up my kernel and I had to do a fresh image restore from the "post" security and all relevant updates packages since 11 July 2008, backed up from "Partimage".

I have done the same process and somehow, I cannot get to connect to the internet and also my T43p failed to obtain a simple DHCP from my router.

It worked with static IP, it shows connected status. The problem here is, I get no internet access even it shows "connected status" from the 0.7 network manager.

    Please help.

    Thank's in advance!

There was bustage this morning in the network-manager PPA. The latest packages should fix most.

We also added new wpasupplicant packages, please upgrade and test them as well.

    Thanks!

When I try to set up an EAP-TLS connection in nm-connection-editor, it doesn't accept certificates:
    Code:
    WARNING **: <WARN>  update(): update: Invalid connection: 'NMSetting8021x' / 'client-cert' invalid: 2

    Hi Alexander,

thanks for all your work on this - the new version is making life much easier on my Hardy laptop while I bounce it around all the different networks I work with.

I've tried to compile the vpnc and openvpn modules per the instructions on pg 2 of this forum, and I'm hitting an issue with missing source file at the 'make' step of both vpnc and openvpn - ala:

nm-vpnc.c:36:33: error: nm-vpn-ui-interface.h: No such file or directory

Am I going about this completely the wrong way ? or is this nm-vpn-ui-interface.h file missing from the current svn ?

    Cheers !

    Scott

Where can the "manual registration" problem come from ?
    Did I misconfigured it ?

You probably need to checkout a SVN revision that matches what Alexander used to build NM.

Browsing through the SVN repo I would try revisions 3799 to 3805 that matches the date. 3803 had some specific changes to VPNC

The source tree of the NM package has the vpn-daemons in it. we currently just dont build them. So just use apt-get source network-manager and then go to the vpn-daemons/ directories or even better use the bzr branches.

Doing so will give you the matching versions.

    To get bzr branch do:
    Code:
    bzr branch https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/network-manager/ubuntu.0.7

Re: How to: Install Network Manager 0.7 SVN on Hardy

    Alexander,

When I try using the version checked out from bzr I get the following:
"nm-openvpn.c:36:33: error: nm-vpn-ui-interface.h: No such file or directory"

If it matters revision 3804 seems to build but it doesn't allow me to modify the settings since that snapshot was part of the transition to the newer GUI.

Is it possible to go to a newer SVN snapshot?

    Thanks!
