    Question Transmission help.

I am a Gnu-Bee when it comes to stuff like bittorrents and such. I've tried Frostwire and liked it, however, it seems I can't install it in Hardy!
Transmission is the "new" default in Hardy, but I can't seem to get it to work.
I'm not real familiar with how to set it up and do a port forwarding. I'm behind a router and can't figure out how to set it to allow Transmission to pass through. I tried to follow a tutorial designed for Apple OS-X and my router (Motorola V2442 for Vonage VoIP).
Can any one direct me to a tutorial that is a little more specific about how to do a port forwarding, etc?

    Thanks,

    Rick

What is the action you are taking and what error message are you getting when you try it?
Download http://torrent.ubuntu.com:6969/file?...6%B0%CDf%F3%8D and tell Firefox to Open With, and transmission should open it and save it to wherever you want.

    Thumbs down Re: Transmission help.

    Hello Ml,

You have to look at the documentation for your router for the answer to that question. If you look up the manual at the vendor website it will tell you how to set up port forwarding.

Its best to give yourself a static IP in the range of your home network that is not in use. For example if your network is 192.168.0.x then give yourself and IP on that network that is not in the DHCP range. Then open up port forwarding to the associated port and you are good.

    Best o luck!

    Re: Transmission help.

    Thanks guys!
I went back through the Apple post and followed the information through all the way. Apparently, I had short-cut the instructions in my haste to find a solution.
I now have Transmission working, all I have to do now is learn what to do with it.

Always seed any torrent back at least 3 fold.

If you're unsure what a command does then type
    Code:
    man command
