Greetings from New Zealand, novice Linux user, first time post.
I have just installed ubuntu ver 8.04 downloaded from the net onto an old machine, AMD sempron 1 Gb ram. Single partition, no windows installed.
Installation went well but I cannot connect to my private home wireless net. The machine can see the net but will not connect. At first I thought it was a WEP key problem but I created a new network, using my mac laptop, with no security protection, which again the machine can see but will not connect.
Having spent hours reading through the supplied and online help i now think it may be a driver problem. The documentation tells me to install ndisgtk, but when I go to the synaptic package manager, it is not there. Can I download this from the net using my mac and transfer it.
I am using a D-link DWL-G122 Airplus G Wireless USB Adapter, which i have the windows and mac install disks for.
I have no experience with UNIX command lines but did use DOS and CPM in the pre windows days.
HELP please.
