    New DEsktop manager with compiz?

    hi.
i just dumped Nautilus for being so slow and uncomfortable.
I followed a script and replaced it with PCmanfm.

Now also my desktop is being drawn by pcman. this makes everything more speedy but pcman is not a full desktopmanager replacement. it lacks som things like freely placing of the icons and the beloved right click menu on the desktop.

It also doesnt use compiz' wallpaper but puts another one on top of the one by compiz.

so i would need some advice on what to use... any ideas?

    oh please noo!

nautilus is quite slow for me...

and besides i like the tabbed nature of pcman and the "search as you type" function when browsing.

I don't know if this will get you your desktop back, but go to pcmanfm's preferences (Edit menu) and go to the Desktop tab. You can turn off both the desktop management (uncheck "Show file icons on desktop") and the wallpaper. Also, down below, under "Advanced" click the triangle, and check the "Show menus provided by WM when desktop is clicked" to see if you get that function back.

I don't know if you will get your desktop without having Nautilus running, but it's worth a try. Also, if it doesn't you may be able to run Nautilus with some switch from the commanline or a startup script that will allow it to control your desktop without also being your file manager. I think this is possible.
