If I shell in to mmy linux box using PuTTY I can highlight some text and use right click to paste that highlighted stuff into xrerm apps such as nano and I can right click or ctrl v to paste into a windows application here on my vista laptop. If I go to uxterm on my linux box I do not seem to have any cut and paste capability. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Any help will be greatly appreciated I've always done copy/paste in xterm by highlighting the text to be copied, then using the middle mouse button to paste. I have no idea how it would work with only 2 buttons though. I try not to use xterm if I can help it.

Thanks for the assistance. I've just about worn out my right mouse button trying to get it to paste. Center click works as does Shift Insert Thanks again for the responses
Hi Guys, I have a similar problem. I can copy the text between the xterm windows by holding the left button on the mouse and then pasting it by pressing the middle button. I want to do the same between applications but I am not able to do so. Specifically, I am trying to copy/paste text from my xterm window into notepad/firefox etc. I tried to use the same technique which i use to copy stuff between xterm windows but it is not working. Any suggestions on how it can be done? Thanks in advance, p.d
Just for a quick check, I tried highlighting the prompt in a terminal window, then pasting it into this reply (via center button/wheel)... it worked.

There is also the program parcellite, a lightweight GTK+ clipboard manager. sudo apt-get install parcellite
