log in screen now 1/2 hidden

We have just upgraded to Harty Heron and now the Ubuntu log in screen only shows about a 1/4 of the whole area - this means we are typing our user name/password in blind and then pressing enter (which fortunately works). We changed to device driver NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver and this made the log in screen the correct size, but this resulted in there being only 2 screen resolution options to choose from and neither of these allows the full screen to be on view in other applications.

You might want to start with the application nvidia-settings (I believe that's the name). It allows much more control of your nvidia card than the built-in "Screen Resolution", including many different resolution settings.

If that doesn't help, there are many different forum discussions here about nvidia problems. Just do a search for:

    nvidia screen resolution 8.04

    (assuming you're running Ubuntu 8.04)

Thanks for that - we seem to have cured the problem somehow!
