I am afraid to do this due to my bad experance with this(i have had to reinstall 4 times today) because every time i try a method it breaks all future attempts to get the wifi working. so (rev 02)??
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02)

My HPdv9000 has the same hardware so it will work:

    lspci | grep Broadcom

    Code:
03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02)

    First are you sure you did everything, next what is the output for;

    Code:
    lspci | grep Broadcom

How would it be possible to do this WITHOUT an Internet connection? Unfortunately for me, WiFi is the only possibility at the moment. (I have a working connection in Vista and can import files to my Linux partition)

All these posts seem to me like "Here's how you get your Internet working, but one caveat, you need a working Internet connection first!"

    Ok Alvarin,

I'm trying to think of why this is not working for you.

Do you get any errors when you are doing any of the steps?

I'll try to help you, but from what i know, if you do everything in order, it will work...

when i did this, it made my menu when clicking on the two black monitors to

    "- Wired Network
    _______________Wireless Networks___________
    Connect to Other wireless Network...
    Create New wireless Network...
    -------------------------------------------
Connect to 802.1X Protected Wired Network....
    Manual Configuration"

and tells me i can use wireless but the light is still orange, maybe i dont know how to search for networks?

the output is "03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02)" when i put in
    Code:
    lspci | grep Broadcom\ Corporation

I have redone it twice , but now it WORKS !!!
There was no difference between my last attempt and the two attempts before it , but whatever .

    Thank you so much !!

jlandaw, you are the man! Thank you for compiling this information together in one easy to use place. I used this to get the wireless working on my sisters dv2000, specifically a dv2418nr, on hardy. I could not be more pleased.
