    ATI x1300 vs intel GMA 3100

    IBM laptop t60 Integrated ATI x1300

    vs

    IBM laptop t61 integrated Intel GMA 3100

    GLX gears

    ATI x1300 == 2500+fps

    Intel gma 3100 == 1150+ fps

    Chromium BSU (game)

    Both run right at 50fps

    Which is better? In glxgears ati beats the crap out of the Intel but in a game they run about the same. Does any one know of any other tests I can throw at it.

    Which is better for Linux?

    I have been given a choice between these two laptops. The T61 is nicer than the T60 but I like to do some gaming nothing real heavy. Nexuiz, Quake 2\3, Enemy territory, Tribes, Guild Wars, etc.

    Which should I go with?

    Thanks

    Are all the specs similar to each other? If you get the same performance out of each machine I would go with what had more memory, hard drive space, etc..

    Yea, they are very close in specs, the t61 has a widescreen, bluetooth, and a built in card reader.

    Just my 2¢

    Assuming both cards is kinda equal for games:

    ATI is a bit worse for linux because of drivers... Intel is a bit better because of better support (and dirvers too).
    Also, gma is integrated videocard (is that bad or good — it's up to you, but integrated peripherials generally consume less watts), but is OK for games (as you have already seen). Some users have some issues with ATI cards.

    Try to search ubuntu forums for problems with both cards and look what will be better for you

    [I'd buy t61]
